Massive Chew Pike for Garner
Paul Garner got amongst the real heavyweights of the pike world with a stunning Chew Valley fish of 37lb 5oz during a period of exceptional results on the water.
The Bristol Water-owned reservoir opened up for the second of its pike trials this week and at least a dozen 30lb plus beasts were boated, including two fish topping the 40lb mark to a top reported weight of 41lb 4oz.
For Peg One angler and FishingMagic regular Paul the reward for sitting it out until 3pm without a bite was this stunning-looking fish of 37lb 5oz which picked up his Baitbox whole mini-mackerel fished on size 4 Pikepro trebles and 45lb Pikepro wire on a float ledger rig with a 25g weight and polystyrene sea float.
The fish came from a drop off in 4.5m of water and, according to Paul, “The fight was pretty unspectacular - which was probably lucky as the hooks fell out in the net!”
