Andy Power - through to the 2012 Match This final
The reigning Maver ‘Match This’ Champion, Andy Power (Preston Thatchers), has qualified for this year’s event following victory at the recent Stafford Moor qualifier.
After becoming the first person to win the £50k prize last year, Somerset-based Andy will once again be in with a chance of securing the richest prize in angling after an impressive performance at Stafford Moor.
The Preston Innovations backed ace booked his place in the final weighing in 109lb from unfancied peg 16 on Tanner’s Lake. Andy is the first angler to book his place in consecutive ‘Match This’ finals and looks to be in fantastic form once again after beating a top class field at the Devon venue.
Andy started the match on the pellet waggler before switching to meat in the margins to take the win and become the ninth angler to qualify for the big money final being staged at Maver Larford Lakes on Saturday 01 September.
Places at the remaining qualifiers are few and far between as ticket sales are up 60% on last year with an average of 76 anglers attending each qualifying event; proof that the event is here to stay and gaining a large following.
