I have to admit to struggling somewhat with the title; surely a 'volunteer is someone who gives, or proposes to give a gift or service for no reward? Regardless, at that 'salary' it might attract a retired chap I suppose . . . . . . . . .

I read it that the salaried post coordinates the activities of volunteer bailiffs. Me too. But still, they're asking a lot for £14k.

In which case it should have read: Coordinator for Volunteer Bailiffs . . . . ??????

Me too. But still, they're asking a lot for £14k. And its only 3 days a week pro rata - so less than that! In which case it should have read: Coordinator for Volunteer Bailiffs . . . . ?????? Indeed!

do any potential applicants for the job have to be a member of the ATs ? are all employees of the ATs members?

Me too. But still, they're asking a lot for £14k. If it's not "pro-rata" (and I can't see that in the article) it's nearly £13 an hour + pension + expenses. Anyone wanting some pocket money combined with time to fish may find it attractive. They may struggle to find graduate candidates though at that salary.

They may struggle to find graduate candidates though at that salary. They're asking for a lot of skills, experience and qualities for what they want to pay. It does say career opportunity - so I doubt that they're anticipating a retired and bored person looking for pocket money though.

My wife reckons the job is already spoken for and that someone in recruitment has lined this up for a friend or relative. If questioned about it they'll say they didn't get the right applicants so decided to take someone on with personal recommendation. She says she's seen this trick used before.

happy days the real will smith has posted having met him in the early days of the ATr, seen the bullsh*t he's suffered, I doff my hat in respect of his committment, and truly believe that if he dont get tainted by the old boys mindset, he will achieve summit positive for angling it seems to me that the EA are giving my license money to the ATr to fund this project the salary and benefits offered, when stacked up against the qualifications required, dont correlate to well in the real world having been the one to propose voluntary bailiffs to both the ATr and EA officials, and having a track record of motivating volunteers, I am unable to apply for the job due to insufficient qualifications, and maybe non membership of the ATr, the real will smith didn't clarify that point the last thing the ATr needs is another semi retiree, it needs youth, people of the real will smiths age and younger here's hoping someone pukka gets the job, someone who cannot only motivate, but will educate non anglers of the positives angling brings to their local community, through deeds and actions

It would have been nice to have a contribution form him or other Angling Trust management when the 'Doing my bit or not..' thread was running. As all ATr e-mailed news updates (to members) have at the end of the communication "To forward this email on to a friend or colleague click HERE." perhaps this could be a service/feature Fishing Magic could set up? instead of cherry picking single items, such as this thread. Or just put up a link to such as THIS for e.g. Anyone working for/employed by the ATr certainly don't do it for the cash rewards alone :) Most of the time Will & Co don't have time to scratch their a... let alone come on here.

Most of the time Will & Co don't have time to scratch their a(nus)? let alone come on here. But he did. My point was that there was a significant thread running on here, I would have thought that some of the issues expressed by nay sayers could have been covered off by someone in Angling Trust management; I'm not suggesting that the Angling Trust entered into one to one debates, but it was left to individual Angling Trust members to do this, making the Angling Trust management look a bit out of touch.

I simply suggested a way for the 'masses' (i.e. those not in membership of the ATr) to avail themselves of current ATr work and achievements, and of any employment opportunities. FM might pick it up, they might not, end of! Ive been on a good few Astra/Audi A3/4 Owners Club forum boards (where members vent their anger, or otherwise) but I've yet to see any responses from the management of those companies, although I suspect many would appreciate some input re the disastrous 'electric parking brakes' but that's a totally different matter

it is inevitable when seeking new colleagues, that the successful applicants engender an air of having the same values, mindset, road map, it is also inevitable that those nearest and dearest to the employment offer, will be better versed in the nuances of the position offered but that dont mean, its a done deal what is a done deal is that the values, mindset, road map are not engineered to maximise individual membership therefore like the fabulous seven, super five and more recently the ambassadors, the latest successful applicant will undoubtedly be youth free, well versed in not motivating the average angler, and about as appealing to the next generation of anglers as a tank aerial is to will raison I make no apologies for believing that to inspire younger anglers, it requires someone who aint a semi retiree or older, the obvious physical differences between youth, adult hood and semi retiree, coupled with a different view of the world, is a recipe to maintain the status quo
