I've rated this photo 'excellent' not for its technical quality but for the sheer opportunism shown by the cameraman - AND it ain't a bad photo at all. Well done, that man! I've only seen a couple of bitterns in all my years, the first one being at the school-field lake in Southminster, Essex. At the time, the pit was a nicely neglected, undisturbed, wild lake with lots of reeds - as you might imagine - but, naturally, it was taken over 3 years ago, stuffed with carp n catfish, tidied-up, blessed with toilets and a car-park and utterly ruined. The bittern must now seek a haunt elsewhere.
