Many anglers use a carp rod for pike fishing, and it has to be said that there is little difference between a pike and a carp rod as far as style and strength are concerned. Yet a dedicated pike rod will have a more through action, for the faster action used for many long casting carp rods isn't necessary. So, although not strictly necessary, a rod especially designed for pike fishing will be the better option.
