'TOP QUALITY - BUT AT A PRICE '
Strengths:
Very clearly top drawer build quality. Excellent fixtures and fittings. Strength. Extremely well designed handle.
Weaknesses:
Reel seat can take some getting used to.
Overall:
I must admit to falling in love with this rod as soon as I picked it up in my local tackle shop. Of the range available I opted for the 13ft Power verson which is capable of handling main lines up to 6lb. It's nice to see a float rod with spiggot fittings rather than more usual 'put over joints', but be careful not to fit them together with too much enthusiasm - I did and couldn't separate the butt from the middle at go home time, and I was the only one on the lake! Lesson learnt. With quality bream, tench and match sized carp attached, the rod displays the most beautiful curve this side of a Page 3. No flat spots either (if you see what I mean!)due to Daiwa's V-Joint technology (not sure what it is - but it works!). There's plenty of power in reserve and I'm sure that this rod would be more than capable of being used as a bagging rod, but it's just too NICE for that. Trotting, waggler work on estate lakes or ponds for tench and bream or general work eslewhere are where I see this rod being best used. The very comforable armlock handle makes handling this rod so much more pleasing.
The Spectron 2 has just been released at a rrp of £250 which means this Mk 1 version will be available heavily discounted (I paid £175 for mine last year) and I've already seen them advertised at about £150. Would I pay £225 for this rod - no. Would I pay £150 for it - YES, so if finances permit grab one while you can. It really is a beautiful bit of British Made kit.
