'A NICE ROD THAT DOES WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN'
Strengths:
Nice action, you can get it in a 3 section version, it's well made.
Weaknesses:
The lifetime guarantee now costs £25 if you need to use it.
Overall:
I like this rod, I got mine, (3 peice 1.5lb test curve version) for £79 and at that price it was a bargain, if I was considering paying the full RRP of £129 I think I would save up and then pay a bit more for a rod built on a Harrisons blank.

It's a nice rod, well made and finished, but be aware your lifetime guarantee will cost you £25 if you need to use it.

'A PLEASURE TO USE'
Strengths:
A lovely Barbel rod which I can depend on in all conditions (other than bad flood conditions); regardless of the size of Barbel Im hoping for.
The rod is deceptively strong with its slim blank and very responsive action.
I usually touch leger with the avon tip and can feel everything happening by the hook.
I like the understated but quality build.
My GTE-B 5000's balance superbly with this rod.
With the lifetime warranty what more could you want?.
Weaknesses:
The Rod bag configuration is badly designed, with the quiver top section and the tube holding the quivers swinging around awkwardly; making it awkward when putting the other sections away. I threw my rod bag into the back of a drawer and now keep my prodigy Barbel rod in a padded rod sleeve which is much better.
Overall:
A superb Barbel rod which I can depend on in all conditions other than flood conditions.
With a lifetime warranty.
Possibly not as good as a Harrisons rod; however at half the price the prodigy is the rod of my choice.

'KENNET PERFECTION!'
Strengths:
Matt Finish
Hook Keeper
Reel Seat
Action
Weaknesses:
None.
Overall:
Virtualy all my fishing for Barbel takes place on the Kennet and having now used this rod for a year and caught numerous doubles up to 13lb on it, I cannot fault it. It casts a 2ozs lead with pva bag attached with no problem. when I first picked it up I thought it was a bit pokerish, but after one hooked fish all that changed. Its takes on a very pleasing medium to through action and even in the height of last years floods still had plenty in reserve in the butt section. Its a rod I can see me using for my floater fishing in the summer (if we get one!) All in all a superb rod for the price.

'SITTING ON THE FENCE ON THIS ONE!!'
Strengths:
-Great looking Rod
-Reel seats
-Powerful butt/1st section
-Versatility!
Weaknesses:
-Misleading quivertip weights
-Too "tippy" for medium-fast flowing rivers
Overall:
Now dont get me wrong, this rod has had i think 11 "100%" positive reviews on here so far - and im sure they cant be here for no reason. But im afraid im gonna spoil the party a bit! The versatility of the rod is fantastic. I have a local carp "runs" water near me in Kent, filled with carp from 3 - 22lb, and this rod here with the avon top is a joy to use with slightly lighter gear for catching them rather than bullying these comparitively "smaller" carp on 2 3/4 TC carp rods and 12-15lb line... HOWEVER, lets not forget that this is supposed to be a barbel rod - and im afraid for its main purpose, i dont feel it performs as well as it should. Firstly, the 4oz tip, i can tell you now from experience, doesnt act like a PROPER 4oz tip should! - I fish the Kennet for barbel alot, and it is fine for the really slack water on raised bars on the inside of bends for example, but if you slug your weight / feeder into the faster flowing water (which isnt even THAT pacey in comparison to the Severn for example!) the tip is far too light. Although indicators of barbel in your swim are generally shown by very sharp knocks on the tip, just a small twig / piece of weed travelling through the current can give a very similar indication on the rod tip, which to me, can become very frustrating. Once a real bite does occur however, as always with barbel, you know it - and when the fish is first hooked, it is quite hard if you are fishing close to snags to prevent these powerhouses taking those first couple of essential yards due to the almost flimsy top section. Once you start to gain control however, the bottom section does kick in and is fairly adequate for medium sized barbel on medium paced rivers. Overall, not a bad rod at all for the money considering its versatility, but for real barbel fishing, i strongly feel there are better rods on the market.
