 | | | Posted: 02/07/08 | | 'ONE OF THE BEST RODS I HAVE OWNED ' | | Strengths: lightweight can be held allday sensitive can feel every turn of hooked fish good handle flattened cork stops slippage when playing fish. I actually own three of these magic rods first one bought from J &K at Bicester but managed to pick up two more from a local tackle shop for £70. each.I actually considering buying one more from another shop for about same. | | Weaknesses: Isotope fitting a bloody nuisance I just cut gently through the whipping and and remove it .I dont consider the absence of a keeper ring a problem I just take all leads or feeders off and hook to one of the ring legs | | Overall: I own and use Greys Prodigy Specialists and find them very heavy and unresponsive also Wychwood rods and again no contest I also own and use Daiwa specialist Avons another superb rod has a screw fitting in top ring for swingtips or quivertips i9 have used this powermesh rod on the Wye, Severn and on Commercials as a Pellet wagler rod All in all a brilliant rod any going cheap let me know !!!!!!! |

 | | | Posted: 25/10/03 | | 'High class, versatile, practical specialist rod ' | | Strengths: Short all cork handle, superb balance of power. | | Weaknesses: Price £165.00 Out of Production | | Overall: Superb. Look no further.
This is a truly great barbel rod. It's in the usual two top design. The first being of the Avon type and the other a quiver. The rod is rated at 1.5 lbs and it's 12 feet long, rated to cast 4 ounces. The rod is fitted with Zircon low friction single leg guides, and it even has an isotope holder whipped on. Many people like an eleven foot rod for barbel but I have found that the extra length helps when dropping a bait down over inside rushes and snags or trotting a big float down through streamer weed. The slim blank and short all cork handle make this a very sensible design. I like short handles and this one is profiled and shaped which ensures a comfortable grip. It's a practical rod for touch ledgering, especially if you are travelling light and sitting on your unhooking mat. The short butt ensures that you don't scrape ground on the strike. Less handle also means more useful rod, so that's another plus.
It's an extremely versatile rod. I've used it for feeder fishing for big bream on the Lower Thames; method fishing for carp; trotting for barbel with big chubber floats and even mullet fishing from the harbour on the quiver. It would be great for big tench too. It's designed for line sizes ranging from 6 - 12 lbs. Line guides are big enough to cope with heavy line, but light enough not to effect the balance. The through action is sweet and steadily progressive; brilliant for tough fast fish like barbel. It's the lower two thirds where the power is though. You can apply all the muscle you will ever need without fear of this rod buckling. The backbone comes from Diawa's Powermesh woven around the butt section. It's a visibly different composition to the two tips. It looks odd at first, like you have been given the wrong top joints. Don't worry though. All fears dissapear the moment you put them together and swish the rod around a bit and feel the action. You just know don't you? It's not the prettiest rod i've ever seen but it is a workhorse, not a pedigree racer. Quality is typical of high spec Diawa. Unfortunately, this rod is now out of production and at a list price of £165, I can see why. Typically, high quality barbel rods of similar spec are selling at around the £100 mark, and therefore, this one has been ignored. Like Concorde, it was brilliant but too expensive! There are a few old stock ones around at discounted prices and it is possible to pick them up now for around the £100 range, so they must be worth looking out for. This year Diawa are producing the new PSB120. It's a 12 foot 1.5 lb Barbel rod and sells £99.99. It looks very similar but I am assured, it is not the same rod under a new name. My rods, (I have two) go under the model number PMX2112B. I will compare one of these new models when I get the chance. |

 | | | Posted: 28/10/03 | | 'EXTREMELY VERSATILE, SWEET-ACTIONED ROD.' | | Strengths: Its versatility and its sublime action. As well as using it to stop double figure barbel in their tracks, even in snaggy swims, I've used it succesfully to leger on the gravel pits for tench and bream (at ranges of up to 50yds), as well as floatfishing for tench/carp/chub/barbel. | | Weaknesses: None really, although I didn't like the isotope attachments on the 4oz quiver top, so snipped them off with some pliers and added my own. | | Overall: A cracking multi-purpose rod, especially at J&K's asking price of £99 each! |

 | | | Posted: 24/01/05 | | 'SUPERB ROD, NOTHING ELSE COMES CLOSE' | | Strengths: Powerfull when needed but sensitive enough to enjoy the fight from a smallish chub or carp. | | Weaknesses: Also dont like the isotope on the quivertip. | | Overall: I have had this rod around 3 years now. Iv'e been barbel fishing all that time and am still to lose a fish on it. I cant find anything wrong with the rod apart from the slightly annoying isotope fitting on the quivertip which i dont use to much anyway. |

 | | | Posted: 26/10/03 | | 'SUPER BARBEL ROD.BEST I HAVE HAD.' | | Strengths: powerful, sensitive, will stop anything.comes with 4oz quiver and avon top.very accurate caster and the flat butt is a nice touch.stops it rolling on my bucket. | | Weaknesses: no keeper ring and the cloth bag is not good enough for a rod in this class.there was no isotope fitting on my rod . | | Overall: i paid £100 for the rod brand new from j&k.there are many good barbel rods on the market at this kind of price good enough to do the job. |
