'IS THIS SIMILAR TO OR THE SAME AS THE MACH 1 TRAVEL ROD?'
Strengths:
I have the 5 piece Mach 1 travel rod. On its first outing, using 6lb line fishing a waggler in the margins it managed a mixed bag of good tench, bream and carp - including 2 low doubles, one almost 12lb. Brilliant performance for a rod that I picked up for £27.99. Very strong. Muted aesthetics. Shortish handle. Lovely progressive, confidence-inspiring action. Can't fault it...
Weaknesses:
I prefer the screw-up rather than screw down reel seat fittings, but that's a minor point. No weaknesses really.
Overall:
I sometimes go for quick midweek trips on a motorcycle and need to travel with tackle that is compact, light but does not compromise on strength or quality. When I go by car i use carbonactive rods. I can give this rod no higher praise than by saying I am as happy taking this as I am my carbonactive power float. It isn't quite in the same league, but there's no way the carbonactive is £100+ better!

'WELL CAPABLE'
Strengths:
as someone who travels around a lot i bought the 5 piece travel version and on its first outing it was well christened with carp and bream upto 4.5lb and i believe it is well capable of bigger fish and for the price of £45 from my local shop in billingham (the tackle box)GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY

[Update 22/05/06] Just an update this rod has surpassed my expectations by easily handling a 9lb common taken on floating bread out of the lily pads at bron eifon fisheries at criccieth in north wales

'ONE STEP AHEAD OF THE OTHER MAKERS'
Strengths:
a true 5 piece travel rod that has a proper match action, very compact
Weaknesses:
the top tie on the rod bag is odd and the rod tube that it comes in is too flimsey and is better replaced if the rod is going to go travelling.
Overall:
This is an excellent rod for the money, there is a Fladden 6 piece match rod on the market but it is almost impossible to find at a tackle dealers to see what the action is like.

The Potenza's finish and cosmetics are very good, rings are well spaced and their alignment is spot on.

Travelling fly fishermen have had a wide choice of travel rod, up to 7 piece for a long time. It's taken too long for coarse tackle manufacturers to catch on to the technology.

Fishermen like to fish, fishermen like to fish on their holidays, ergo make travel rods for fishermen.

This is going to be a big seller and Shakespere need to follow this rod up with a range of rods for the travelling angler, for example a feeder version, an avon twin tip and a beefed up carp float rod for commercial fisheries.

'Fantastic Value for Money'
Strengths:
Brilliant Action
Good Build Quality
Good Value for Money
Weaknesses:
Only 2 rods in the range
Stated max reel line 4lb
Overall:
Am very impressed with the rod. Definitely better than the Daiwa Harrier Z that I had that was more than twice the price. Shame it will only handle main lines up to 4lb though, I would have preferred 6lb.
