| 'FANTASTIC BASIC BOX ' | | Strengths: Indestrucible, lightweight, loads of storage space, big seating area, plenty of accessories | | Weaknesses: Cumbersome to carry (cost of big internal space), not good on uneven ground | | Overall: As budget box, aimed at pleasure angling and newcomers, it is hard to fault.
It is amazingly robust (I've had one for 18 years, and it was second hand when I bought it), it'll carry an enormous amount of tackle and bait when fishing (no need for a separate carrall), it doubles up as a good storage box when not in use, and is dirt cheap especially if you pick one up second hand.
It's only real weakness is that it isn't comfortable on uneven ground, but as most beginners and casual anglers will probably stick to well set out pools or canals, this isn't that much of an issue. I have seen people with a bit of DIY skill easily adapt the box with separate leg sytems, just needs a bit of skill and imagination.
It's no match for modern 'match' boxes, especially for fishing really long poles, but realistically, why would anyone spending £400-£500 on a pole and £20 a session for a match, be looking at a £30 seat box.
