Korum Ruckbag
More about Korum
Average Rating: 4 out of 5
No. of Reviews: 4
RRP: £39.99
Year: 2008

Description: A new concept in Tackle Management. The Ruckbag is based on our Intelligent Tackle Management system (compatible with the Tackle/Rig Manager boxes). The top opening allows complete access to the main compartment. The rucksack straps are also top mounted to prevent them lying on the ground and getting dirty. The EVA base protects the base even in wet/muddy swims. The Ruckbag is also compatible with Korum chairs, especially the lightweight version. The innovative clip and strap system allows the chair to form a supported rucksack back, which maximises mobility for the roving angler.
FM short review: It’s different, of that there is no doubt. It turns the usual rucksack concept upside down, or at least on its back. I’ll be very surprised if it doesn’t catch on with a lot of anglers.

'THE BAG I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR.'
Strengths:
Well designed, well made, and well good!
Weaknesses:
NONE
Overall:
I’ve also just sold my Korum Rucksack to pay for the Ruckbag – what a good move! Although the Rucksack is a great piece of kit and I had no complaints about it, the Ruckbag is far better for someone like me, who has to rely on walking or public transport. Previously I could only take my chair with me if I was able to blag a lift to my local lake, as it was just too much hassle to carry a rod bag, chair and rucksack. Now I only have to worry about carrying my rods as everything else is safely packed away in one convenient, lightweight and easy to carry package.

As the previous review says, it looks smaller than the Rucksack; but it appears to be a mini-Tardis! It’s much more capacious than it looks at first sight and when fully packed with my usual tackle, I am still left with room to spare, which I didn’t have with the Rucksack. The open top design is just brilliant (I’m sure it must have been designed by a woman!) No more having to delve into the depths for that bit of tackle that is always somehow at the bottom, lurking underneath everything else. Once open, all the contents are visible and easily accessible. It has got to be one of the best designed bags on the market, and I should know! I’ve been through five bags in the short time since I started fishing, but I now think that I’ve found the perfect solution for all my fishing needs.

The extra large zipped pocket on the outside is a godsend, as it fits my huge thermos flask with ease. The smaller of the two outside pockets is perfect for carrying my two small Shimano reels, and well padded so I’m not worried about them getting damaged. I’ve also found that the bag is large enough for me to fit my folding stool in, which means that I can use it for roving on the river when I choose not to take my chair with me. There are two zipped mesh compartments in the lid, and a further full length zipped pocket on the inside, (perfectly sized for a rolled up lightweight waterproof jacket) together with five open pockets, providing plenty of organised storage for bits and pieces.

I have to agree with John about the handles getting muddy, but luckily I found a solution on my first outing this afternoon. Just unclip the straps, then fold and tuck them into the two nearest open pockets. Job done!

I did have a bit of faffing around to do when it came to attaching the chair though. Doh! It would have been so much easier if I’d bothered to read the instructions….once I’d figured it out though, it was very simple and quick, and I was ready to go. I had a two mile walk to my local lake for a quick afternoon session and it was no effort at all. I found it very comfortable, and obviously had the straps adjusted correctly, as I had no problem with them slipping.

All in all, this has to be one of the best designed bits of kit on the market, and at an extremely competitive price. I’m very impressed so far, both with the ease of use and the quality. It certainly feels as if it’s built to last. I would have liked a waterproof raincover, such as is supplied with the Ruckbag, but that’s a small complaint. After all, if it rains, it can be conveniently stored under the chair.

All in all, it appears to be a very robust and well thought out bit of kit. Full marks from me!

'WELL THOUGHT OUT AND GOOD VALUE!'
Strengths:
Robust with lots of good storage pockets both inside and out with great access to all your gear without having to dig deep into a normal rucksack.
Seems to be Good quality and time will tell, but I have Korum stuff for ages and no problems so far.
Weaknesses:
Wish the straps were detachable so they do not get muddy.
Overall:
Looks to be a good product and I think will really make my life a little easier.

'A FANTSTIC DESIGN THAT ALLOWS ACCESS TO ALL OF THE CONTENTS '
Strengths:
well made, well designed, convenient access to all contents, lightweight, advanced design but at the same time a very simple concept.
Deceptively capacious!
Weaknesses:
None
Overall:
I've just bought the Korum Ruckbag, and have sold my Korum Rucksack to pay for it.

The first thing I noticed is that it looks quite a bit smaller than the rucksack, and I immediately thought I'd made a big mistake and that I should've kept the Rucksack. I was soon proved wrong though as for some reason I can get a lot more kit into it!!

It doesn't come with any of the "free" bits boxes, but I didn't need them anyway. Its far more user friendly than the rucksack. Being able to lay it fat and unzip the whole of the front makes it so much easier to find things - no more rumaging around. I found getting the ITM rig and tackle manager boxes in and out of the original rucksack quite tight and with cold hands, often awkward. Not so with the Ruckbag!

I clipped on my lightweight Korum chair and walked a mile to my local lake - it was so comfortable I hardly noticed it was there.

Another improvement is the size of the external pockets - they're bigger and the zips again allow better access to the contents. Also, because its not as deep as the Rucsack, it will slide underneath my chair whilst I'm fishing, and in a tight peg that is a definite advantage.

All in all, a fantastic buy.

If you want to carry loads of kit, then look somewjhere else as this will not suit. If, like me you need to travel light, then this this is exactly what you need!
