'EXCELLENT CHUB ROD'

Strengths:
Lightweight, powerful, excellent build quality, so you have the confidence to battle big chub away from snags, without the rod letting you down!!

Weaknesses:
None so far. (i have the 1.5 T/C)

Overall:
Ideal tool for chub/barbel but seem to have been replaced now by the 7 series, SO BUY ONE WHILE YOU STILL CAN

'Best Chub Fishing Rod on the market'

Strengths:
Light to use but loads of power when needed. brilliant for shy cagey fish. a range of tips for every occasion, and twin isotopes a must on night sessions when bites are hard to come by, Fugi reel seat and guides.

Weaknesses:
None I've come across in two years of use.

Overall:
Excellent value for money and a pleasure to use with plenty of power when needed for heavywieght chub.

'1.5LB TC - BAGS OF POWER FOR CHUB AND BARBEL.'

Strengths:
Excellent quiver top section and selection of tips (No flat spots). Isotopes included. Built from quality materials throughout.

Weaknesses:
The rods matt finish marks easily (Problem with all matt finish rods and not just Drennan)
Avon top section is a bit stiff in the tip.

Overall:
This rod will comfortably handle Barbel in all but the snaggiest of swims. Also forgiving enough for Chub and Bream - Highly recommended.

'VERSATILITY WITHOUT COMPROMISE'

Strengths:
Used as a quivertip rod:
I would agree that this is the best chub rod available infact it is almost perfect. The blank has what I would describe as a 'middle' action and this makes the rod far more crisp and responsive than other, similar multi-functional tools.
It also makes it more versatile in my opinion.
With the addition of drennans fast taper quivertips (not included) the rod becomes an entirely different animal, suitable for smaller species. I have used mine for roach using size 18 hooks without any problems at all.

Hollow tip: I really like this. It feels very stiff in the hand but this is entirely due to the fact that the action is quite steeply tapered for a rod of this type. In fact this makes the rod far more suitable for lighter lines and smaller hooks without detracting from the neccesary power. You touch legerers out there would love this!

Weaknesses:
The 2oz quivertip was not quite a perfect fit. This is easily solved with a tube of lipsyl but on a rod costing in excess of £130 its a flaw that should have been sifted out during Q.C.
The quivertips supplied are rated at 2,2.5,3 & 4oz. I would have preferred a 1oz quiver to have been included and I really don't see that the 4oz version has a use.

Overall:
I bought this rod after reading Ian Nairns review and I have to agree that it probably is the best chub rod on the market...with the addition of a softer tip...
The handle is the perfect length, there's no scrimping on the number or type of rings and the action of the blank is absolutely spot on.
