Excellent standards of manufacturing, free spinning, very smooth and comparibly light when compared to my modern closed face reel. | | Weaknesses:
The ratchet lever could be made more easy to engage and a reel pouch should be made standard.
My reel has a tiny amount of play but the screw to adjust this has seized or been loctited into position by the manufacturer.
The main weaknesses of this reel is the person using it and the quality of the line applied. | | Overall:
This is a great reel and, for the quality, good value. However, you do not take the heavy wooden box fishing so it has no protection. I feel that for this reason a reel pouch should be supplied as standard.
The reel fits easily to all my rods except one which is the BJ River Trotting rod by the same manufacturer!!
These items deserve good care so mine is serviced and put on display after each trip. Sourcing a good quality oil has been a problem so i think the manufacturer should supply some and give a recommendation of what to use.
I am about to buy another pin and another purist or a BJ light weight are at the top of my list. |

Good, solid construction.
Beautifully engineered making it very pleasing to look at.
Spins for a good minute at the moment, but that will increase with use.
Simple switch on side for instant drag or micro adjustable drag setting that applies pressure to the spindle.
Solid wooden presentation box with certificate of authenticity, etc.
| | Weaknesses:
Silly point, but the manufacturers care instructions were photocopied and were a poor copy at that as some of the print was missed off.
Also, for this amount of money, you would have thought they could include some lubricating oil too.
| | Overall:
Truly excellent centrepin. Starts spinning at the slightest touch. So far the lightest float I’ve used is a 2BB Avon and that had no problems in setting the reel spinning. Be interesting to see how it copes in the reduced flows of the summer. |

| 'GOOD OLD BRITISH WORKMANSHIP WINS THE DAY. ' | | Strengths:
Well made is an understatement, this reel is a work of art in the way of build quality.
Spins well and the brake system helps to control the release of line to a point.
Easy to change the position of the line guard.
Comes with a box and certificate.
| | Weaknesses:
Well dare I say it has small handles. Ok I know most pins have small grips but with cold fingers or clumsy hands you will find it a touch hard to get use to.
The brake system is not enough for me and if you leger in a fast flow you will need to hold the spool to stop it given line out.
No reel pouch supplied as standard.
No oil well on the inside like some other older models they use to build. | | Overall:
Well made reels that take some beating for build quality but some areas could be improved. Why a certificate? they don't work to any standard so it does seem pointless.
My old Grice & Youngs pin brake system hammers this one but its a sliding lever type and not the screw in found on the Purist. |

pleasure to trot with. this reel takes the centrepin to
a whole new level, what the manufacturer has done is combine traditional workmanship and applied modern technology to produce a tried and tested
english classic. |
