'BURNT FINGERS!!!'
Strengths:
Good free running reel, solid construction and excellent value for money.
Weaknesses:
As with some other users I have found the reel foot too chunky for some rods. Also it can overrun and bed line into the mechanism behind the spool - although this problem was caused by my own gormlessness rather than a major design flaw.
Overall:
Having always wanted to try fishing with a centrepin I picked one of these up for fifty quid a couple of years ago. I've used it for trotting and found it perfectly capable of accomplishing the task in hand.

However this reel really came into its own margin and floater fishing for carp. It's tough and the workings are enclosed, mine has coped impeccably with the usual mud, bait residue, knocks, drops, immersions and prat-falls that accompany that type of fishing.

Be warned though this reel can dish out a painful lesson when applying thumb pressure to the serrated rim of the spool to slow down a running fish - a friction burn to the tip of the thumb can be agonising!

One final thing - the last time I used this reel a long searing run from a decent sized carp did largely unscrew the spool from the main body of the reel which in the heat of the fight was disconcerting to say the least!

Overall a great reel for dipping your toe into the world of centrepins without having to lash out wads of cash.

'ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS'
Strengths:
It's been said before, but I'll say it again. This reel spins for ever.
Weaknesses:
I haven't had a problem with it as I mainly use it with a twenty foot carp rod, for dapping for trout trotting and of course carp, and it fits well. It balances the rod perfectly.
Overall:
I have several pins, some cheaper and some a lot more expensive, however there is something about this reel that makes it my first choice most of the time. It is very well made and totally reliable.

'IF CENTREPINS WERE CARS THESE REELS WOULD BE 1980S LADAS'
Strengths:
fast retreive due to large diameter.
Weaknesses:
poorly made.
Overall:
if you want to fish with a pin, buy a propper one. A good second hand match aerial for around £120.00 or a trudex or speedia for around £60.00, these reels will with a little regular maintenance last a lifetime and are also investments. If you want a reel that runs on bearings you can buy an okuma aventa or sheffield for not much more than the leeds and at least they are well made. If this is british engineering at its best, we have no chance of surviving as a quality manufacturing nation.

'EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY'
Strengths:
Very free spinning and performed well trotting and legering on rivers and for under the rod top work on still waters. Rugged construction, and looks like it will last a good few years.
Weaknesses:
Reel foot a little large for some modern reel seets. I've filed mine down.
Overall:
Would recommend this reel to anyone. If you are on a budget you won't do much better

'BEST OF BRITISH'
Strengths:
really smooth, runs forever. ratchet handy if a bit flippin noisy!!
Weaknesses:
not that light and the reel foot really doesn't fit rods such as shimano with the trendy reel fitting. Amend with tape..
Overall:
Simple and very effective, great intro if you aren't sure about pins and don't want to fork out. Should last a long time..

'Serious trotting reel for under £60'
Strengths:
Free spinning - set it spinning and go and make a cup of tea and it will still be spinning when you get back! Sturdy construction, nice black finish. Click check to prevent overruns when tackling up or playing big fish.
Weaknesses:
Over large reel foot won't fit lots of modern rod reel seats. For £57 quid I took a Dremel to mine and "customised" it. A lick of black paint and you can't tell the difference.
Overall:
This is a serious centrepin for a silly price. It may not be as nice to look at as the Youngs reels but it performs as well on the water.

'A quality centrepin for less than £60'
Strengths:
Well engineered, free spinning - set it spinning and go and make a cup of tea, it will still be going when you get back! Optional ratchet to avoid birdsnests when tackling up or playing big fish.
Weaknesses:
The reel foot is chunky and won't fit a lot of modern rod reel seats. But at 57 quid I thinned mine down with a Dremel and re-painted it!
Overall:
If you think you've got to part with silly money for a centrepin, think again. This is British Engineering at its finest for the price of a bog-standard fixed spool.

'MMMMM. NIIIICE'
Strengths:
Very free spinning but more importantly takes very little pressure to overcome spool inertia - important when trotting with light stick floats.
Weaknesses:
Quite heavy - after a days trotting I know that I've been holding it.
Overall:
Love it! I didn't know whether a pin would be for me and didn't fancy paying £100+ to find out. For £55 I've got a pin that is perfect for short afternoon sessions down the river.
