| 'KIND TO PIKE, KINKS IF YOU LOOK AT IT CROSSEYED.' | | Strengths: Coated with plastic, so easy to handle and kinder to a hooked fish, and stops 7 strand unwinding at a cut end. The price is OK, but I can only land 2 fish at the most on the 20lb without it curling up or kinking badly. | | Weaknesses: Plastic invariably stripped off by pike, making a mess of the trace. 15lb kinks far too easily, 20lb not a lot better. Over 20lb too thick for me because of the coating. Plastic stiffens the trace. Confidence reduced because a crimp is gripping plastic, not wire. Overcome by stripping the wire at the crimp, but that is causing extra work, and the wire alone is easy to kink and curl.
| | Overall: I have used this for a while, because I liked the protective coating for a hooked fish. I have recently got hold of some 30lb fox easy twist, which seems thinner than the coated Drennan in 15lb, and more supple. I will do some tests to see if it does any damage, and how easily it kinks. |
