'TONY MILES' BEST BOOK BY FAR'
Strengths:
Tony's enthusiasm just carries the reader along - I found it hard to put down. The descriptions of Tony's fishing sessions are so vivid you almost feel as though you are there with him - in fact I got very muddy walking back to his van one night!
Weaknesses:
Two minor criticisms: some of the b&w photos are just too dark to see properly and in one or two places the chapters appear to have been dropped in without considering the "continuity" for example Tony refers to an earlier fish caught as if his readers are unaware of it but we have been given a full description of the capture just a few pages earlier
Overall:
Despite my slight criticisms above this has to be one of the best angling books I have read for some time and it is, without doubt, the best Tony has written. What made it especially interesting was that I was reading it whilst the debate about the double capture of The Traveller was very recent on the FM forum and just after the article by Graham King in Coarse Fisherman

'ESSENTAIL READING FOR ANY KEEN BARBEL ANGLER'
Strengths:
Beautifully produced book that is destined to become a classic. The chapters describing barbel behavoir and how they feed are worth the money alone.
Weaknesses:
None really. Some people mike think it expensive, but this 1st edition will be an investment.
Overall:
This is one of my favourite types of fishing book. Not "How to" but "How it was."

There is nothing kept back in this superb account of success and often failure. The descriptions of the epic battles with these huge barbel will make your arm ache.
