'NICE IDEA. BUT NEEDS TWEAKING'
Strengths:
Good stability in flight
Holds particles well
Weaknesses:
Lost a spod on the first day out, as the nose fixing point parted company inexplicably on the retrieve - went home and adapted a spare one to make sure it didn't happen again
Overall:
Good idea and great for bream and tench work in principal, delivers bait & particles accurately however I feel the makers have to work on the nose cone fixing issue

'Nice idea, but back to the drawing board.'
Strengths:
The method of attaching a filled spod is easy to use and disengages on impact with the water. This is explained in detail on the packaging. Both sizes can be cast on a 'normal' Carp rod but a shock leader is advisable. Being white with a red nose cone makes trhem visible at distance.
Weaknesses:
Try as I might I cannot get these spods to fly straight. They both wheel up and to the side. I like to feather spods down or hit them hard against the line clip so they do not penetrate the water too deeply or too much commotion. This prevents the spod from unhooking itself to be retrieved nose first which is the reason I bought them.
Overall:
Before spods were called spods they were used by Bream and Tench anglers. These were made from things such as wool bobbins or plastic tubes salvageed from the kitchen. All these had one thing in common, they had a means by which the 'spod' was retrieved nose first. Thus the arm ache associated with modern spods never was an issue. I have long since lost my Merv Wilkinson spods so I was very excited to learn that my DIY skills could be rested when I first saw the MCF ones. Subsequent trials have proved woeful so it is back to the cardboard and sticky back plastic.
Maybe mine which are very early models are different to current models so if anyone has found any of this to be contrary to their findings I would love to give these spods another try.
