 | | | Posted: 05/03/06 | | 'VERY LARGE WELL MADE DESIGNED HOLDALL' | | Strengths: well padded where needed, accomodation is excessive, balanced. | | Weaknesses: no stiff pole supplied by shimano | | Overall: this is one hell of a holdall.it will take ten rods, three with reels seven without,if that's not big enough then what is? andrew robinson asks for a little more padding on the tip/tail section, actually this is where you store 6 rods, three with the reels in place and three upside down without reels, the pockets for the rod butts is ample and the rods are held in place by laces, the reel area is very well padded, and a padded partition then velcro's over the section so your rods are almost bomb proof.across the other side and there are pockets for four more rods without reels, again the rods are held in place by laces and the butts sit snuggly into their little pockets.once zipped up you have two adjustable webbing style belts with snap buckles to further hold shape of the holdall, these belts/straps will also hold any item secure that may be sticking out of the holdall's outer pockets.there are two of these,a smaller one for banksticks or a pod and a larger one for a brolly or bivvy.the samllest of the pockets is verp deep, normally with external pockets the manufacturers state that they will house banksticks or pods, and, normally you manage to just squeeze in three or four banksticks, not so with this pocket it will hold a pod AND banksticks and still have room to spare for a couple of throwing sticks.(i fit my pod three throwing sticks and landing net stink bag in here easily).the larger pocket is designed for the bivvy or brolly, normally you squeeze a brolly in and that's that, this however, will take a fox frontier bivvy with enough room for a few extra's(storm poles, landing net handle if you cannot fit it in one of the ten pockets).it will struggle with the larger bivvies as will all holdalls(i also have a jrc two man defender extreme and no holdall will carry this)but for the rapid erection bivvies made by suck as fox, nash et al these will fit perfectly.the handles have been placed in the perfect position,i don't know who designs for shimano but they deserve a pat on the back for this,i fully loaded this with as many rods as i could along with pod, bivvy, landing net and when placed on the shoulder it just sat there,no slipping no tipping balanced.the handle is the same when you load up normally the holdall goes top or bottom heavy, not so with this the handle is in the perfect position. the only gripe is that shimano don't sell this supplied with a pole to keep it rigid however i bought mine from brentwood angling and they guys chucked in a pole at no extra charge. in all a massive holdall that is too big for the biggest of egos and should last years until the next fad of tackle design arrives. |
