Strengths: Simple, cheap, unobtrusive and effective, with several different uses.
Weaknesses: Can be a little fiddly, particularly when used with a greasy or oily bait.
Overall: The John Roberts Worm / Luncheon Meat Stops consist of a circular piece of opaque rubber with a small tag sticking out from the side and a dimple in the middle to push the hook point through. Simply hook your meat or worm as normal and slide one of the stops on after it.
This is one of those simple items that can really make a difference to your fishing. When fishing with worms or meat it alleviates those nagging suspicions that the bait has come off or the hookpoint has been obscured. They allow you to cast a soft bait a reasonable distance without the frustrating experience of seeing it fly off the hook and heading for the horizon (whilst the rig has hit your mark perfectly!).
The bait stops are also great for keeping pre-soaked chum mixers on the hook, they can now be cast harder and will resist being nudged and pulled at by small fish or cautious carp.
Finally sliding one up the shank of a hook provides a good gripping point for moulding soft paste baits to.
In conclusion a very well thought out and versatile product. I always carry some of them in my tackle box and would recommend them to any angler using soft or wriggly baits.
John Roberts really has a happy knack of producing simple products that solve everyday angling problems.
