The first afternoon and evening have been disappointing here at Melton Pit. None of us caught anything right up to three of us getting our heads down for the night at about 11pm, totally knackered after getting up at 2am yesterday to make the big journey down here.

Dave Dowding (Mr Wriggles) who lives fairly local in Sudbury, left his rods out and was rewarded with an 18lb 11oz carp a little after midnight, but that was the only bite of the night. Several other anglers on the water were also fishless.

Maybe the slight drop in water temperature, due to local heavy rain, has been responsible for the slow sport, for otherwise the conditions look reasonable. I’ve just spoken to Paul Garner on the mobile who lives close to the pit. He too blanked on another water last night while fishing for tench. He’s coming to see us tonight so maybe he will bring us some luck.

So watch this space, more later………..
