Working together to create a stronger fisheries and angling voice

February 10 2004

The National Angling Alliance and the Moran Committee members have met to discuss the best approach to unify fisheries and angling bodies on key issues. The aim is to work together to provide a strong united voice for all anglers and fisheries interests- whatever they like to fish for and wherever they like to fish.

There are no plans for any of the organisations involved to give up their independence.

Funds and greater priority, research, and action are required to sustainably manage fish stocks and fisheries. The angling and fisheries bodies need to step up to meet the challenges and threats facing the fish stocks and fisheries. The issue of funding to ensure a coordinated professional representation is on the agenda for the next working group meeting.

Unity is about ensuring that angling and fisheries issues receive the priority and attention they deserve. From an angling perspective, unity means ensuring the habitats and species anglers care for are well managed, and that all anglers are well represented.

A structure and potential funding streams will be presented to the main committee by April 30, 2004.
