BALLINAGLERA LAKE – known locally as Lower Annagh – is a cut-off from Lough Allen and stuffed full of bream, roach and hybrids, yet is rarely fished seriously.

In fact, David Mather from Chorley in Lancashire had the place to himself for a couple of days during his holiday to Drumshanbo in County Leitrim.

His first session produced a mixed net that he weighed at 52lb but improved considerably when he returned at 7am the following morning to catch over 90lbs.  And the fish were still feeding when he packed up at lunchtime!

“It was brilliant fishing and on the first day I even had a hybrid of 3lb”, David reported.

“I used a groundbait feeder into 12 feet of water about 35 yards out.  It was possible to make a bite every cast maggot, but most of the bream were caught on a worm sandwich (two pieces of corn with the worm in the middle) on a size 12 hook.
