Dave returns his PB 13-pounder
Dave Colclough has caught big trout before, including a couple of doubles, but he topped the lot the other day with a personal best rainbow of 13lb 12oz from Ellerdine Fisheries in Shropshire.

The fish took a gold head rubber-legged daddy fished about 6ft deep and stripped his 6lb leader and WF8 fly line down to the backing as it ran for an island some 50 yards distant. But he soon had the fish under control and netted and weighed it before it was returned.

Dave and I have had some great days flyfishing just recently, including one magic day when I had 19 rainbows over 4lb, most of them around the 5lb mark, with a best fish of 7lb. Dave had a dozen similar sized fish. But the fish that gave me most pleasure was a brownie of about 21/2 lb, the only brownie taken from the water for many weeks.

All the fish took buzzers fished 1ft deep on a 4lb leader fished with a light outfit of 8ft 6in #4/5 fly rod and a WF5 floating line. The buzzers were inched very slowly or allowed to drift with the ripple.
