I recently fished the Hale Park Syndicate stretch of the Hampshire Avon, fishing bread flake in the slacks.

The river was in excellent condition, fining down following some heavy rain. I didn’t know what to expect as I had only joined the syndicate on 1st February, but was more than pleased to catch a personal best barbel of 12lb 12oz.

It is the first barbel I have caught from the Avon above Ringwood.

I was lucky to get the fish weighed as I had left my scales at home, but KenCampbell, the fishery manager, turned up and when he saw the barbel he nipped home for set of scales. On returning he weighed the fish and very kindly took the photos.

You can obviously understand I am well impressed with the fishery.
