ANGLER’S MAIL has just launched a new summer special – Carp Tips 2008 – and it’s hailed as ‘the best single carp magazine ever published’.

The perfect-bound 132-pager has is being sold exclusively in most Tesco stores from July 1. After six weeks it will then go into independent magazine retailers.

Price is £ 4.99, including a brilliant free DVD, the spring and summer instalments of Four Seasons of Carp Fishing, starring Jim Shelley and Jerry Hammond, with Ian Welch.

Angler’s Mail Editor Tim Knight said: ‘This is our very first issue of Carp Tips and it does exactly what the title suggests – offering hints galore to help EVERYONE catch more carp.

‘Sure, we are biased, but as a single magazine for all carp anglers this one has to be the best! It’s essentially an “annual manual”.

‘Our regular must-read contributor Colin Davidson rounded up essential advice-packed material covering 2008’s tackle, tactics, bait and rigs. That’s mixed with Gary Newman’s revealing interviews with star anglers, talking about their own specialist branches of carping.

‘Gaz tempted ‘Sir’ Pete Springate, a veteran of the harder whacker waters, to make a rare appearance in print. Nash Bait guru Gary Bayes explains his baiting approach. Korda and Daiwa ace Dave Gawthorn show how to fit carping into a hectic lifestyle.

‘Danny Smith’s free-spirited passion for canal and river carp is a fascinating read. And last, but not least, Korda’s Adam Penning shares his love of floater fishing.

‘We’ve also got two brilliant live sessions with two of the hottest young stars of carping, former Nash Carp Cup champion David Magalhaes on stalking and Fox’s teenage sensation Tom Maker on tackling more prolific carp waters,’ added Tim.

Carp Tips 2008 also includes a £ 2,000 competition for 30Plus tackle. It follows up the successful Where To Fish 2008 one-shot magazine launched by Angler’s Mail in May.

verdict

“Not another carping magazine,” was my first reaction, “as though the market isn’t already awash with them.”

And then I flicked through it, and looked at the photographs. And then I went back to the beginning and read it thoroughly and looked at the photographs again. It had me hooked.

From a carp angler’s point of view, which I am much of the time these days, it is a mine of information that will appeal to both beginner and advanced carper alike. It was good to be reminded of some of the more basic elements of carping that the more experienced angler takes for granted. And it was great to read so many enlightening advanced tips from such an array of carp angling talent within its pages.

The photography was top drawer, as I’ve come to expect from Angler’s Mail, and the whole magazine has an attraction that will have me flicking through its pages until they’re well dog-eared.

At £ 4.99, including a DVD, its value for money matches its content – Excellent!
