Diss angler Stephen Lee pocketed more than £ 2000 when he won the Angling Times British Pike Championships. He netted five pike for a total weight of 44lb.

A total of 476 anglers fished the championships on the banks of the Forty Foot and Sixteen Foot Drains in a contest that raised cash for pollution fighting body the Anglers Conservation Association.

Lee, 37, fished peg 365 on the Forty Foot, and used deadbait, mainly smelt, for all five of his fish that ranged from 4lb to 13lb. He had placed a £ 10 each way bet on himself which earned him a grand, and then copped for another grand from the prize money.

In second spot was Walter Wright of Telford with a weight of 27lb from the Forty Foot. Chris Hammond was third on the Sixteen Foot with a weight of 22lb 4oz.
