Although the following is a list of fisheries already closed, we urge anglers to keep away from all farmland until the present crisis is over. If in any doubt whatsoever as to whether your fisheries are closed please check first before setting foot on, or near, farmland.

Chris Poupard, Secretary of the National Angling Alliance said:

“We have taken advice from MAFF Officials who have recommended that while the present Foot and Mouth outbreaks are still occurring – and until they have full control of the situation – any unnecessaryvisits to the countryside, and farmland in particular, should be avoided”.

“Whether it is for fishery management, matches or individual fishing visits, the message is the same: keep away from farmland anywhere unless you know for certain that it is safe for livestock. Nobody should assume anything and, if in doubt, we advise that youcontact the owner or tenant before entering onto the property”.

Please send in your news of fishery closures and we will add them to the list – graham@fishingmagic.com.

David Moore, Recreation DevelopmentManager, Anglian Water said:

”We have closed the access tracks aroundour reservoirs to protect livestock on adjacent farm land. Access isavailable to car parks and boats for sailing and fishing. There hasbeen excellent co-operation from visitors and our leisure operatorsover the weekend and general acceptance that these restrictions onpublic access around our reservoir tracks are both sensible andresponsible.

We are keeping the situation under review, listening to MAFF advice and will relax the restrictions as soon asis possible.

At Ravensthorpe additional boats are beingtransferred from Pitsford Water and rowing boats will be availablefree of charge to anglers while the ban on bank fishing remains. Theusual charges will apply to motor boat hire.”
