One of the most popular features of our weekly angling newspapers and some of the monthly magazines is the fisheries section. In these an angler can look up a fishery, get the exact location, find out how much it costs to fish it, see what the rules are, and know what he can reasonably expect to catch.

On the internet it is so much easier, for we then have the facility of a search engine, where you can type in a fishery name, or some other keyword, and within seconds the information is on your screen.

The Fishooked CD now takes things a step further, offering more than a 100 ways to search for coarse and game fisheries in the UK and Ireland, using keywords such as price, town, county, species, etc, etc.

In its interactive database it has over 5000 fisheries, 1200 angling associations and clubs, tackle shops and even where the nearest pubs, B&B’s and chippies are! There are maps to point you in the right direction and notes on the facilities the fishery offers.

The CD works alongside the Fishooked website in that the £ 19.99 you pay for the CD also entitles you to three month’s free access to the site where you can keep the database up to date with new fisheries as they are added. For £ 29.99 you can have 12 months access.

The CD is a nice piece of software that is easy to use, and what makes it stand out from the crowd are the photographs of many of the fisheries. For no matter how well a fishery is described you can’t beat seeing a picture of it.

It is a ‘must have’ bit of kit for those adventurous anglers who like to try new waters on a regular basis, but perhaps a bit OTT for those who only occasionally venture farther afield.
