Fishrite Guest/Roving Chair

The chair folds flat and can be clipped to the rucksack for easy carriage. The rear legs fold flat to facilitate sloping river banks. The cover is made from tough, heavy duty nylon with a strong elasticated support system. The frame is epoxy coated for durability.

Some of you may not know what is meant by a ‘guest chair’ so let’s explain that one before we go any further. A guest chair is an extra chair you take along when you bivvy up for a longish session. It’s used for sitting outside the bivvy in good weather and saves you from having to lug the bedchair in and out of the biv. It also serves as a chair for any ‘guests’ that come along so they have somewhere to sit while you chat and share a brew.

A roving chair is, of course, a chair that should be easily transportable while you rove from swim to swim either on river or stillwater, but more usually on rivers. It should be light and adjustable to fit swims of different shapes of swim and sloping river banks.

This Fishrite Guest/Roving Chair scores pretty good on the first count as a guest chair. It’s comfortable and folds flat enough to be stowed out of the way when not in use.

But as a roving chair it scores fewer points. It isn’t particularly light and although the back legs fold up to suit sloping river banks, it can wobble about a little too much where the banks are not even. Some scraping and digging with a bankstick usually sorts that out, but it is so much easier with four, independently adjustable legs. And, I don’t really want to be scraping grooves into the river bank when I have some wily chub and barbel in the swim.

But let’s keep the price in mind, for the money it’s not bad value and if you want a chair that’s lighter and with independently adjustable legs you’re looking at about twice as much.
