Peter Collins, former Angling Times Assistant Editor, was discovered by a member of the PAC with four set lines on a private stretch of a Fen drain. The traps and a gaff were handed to the Environment Agency.

In an interview with AT, 78-year-old disabled angler Collins admitted to killing every zander he caught and to date has taken 50 fish to over 13 lb.

His defence is that with the illegal spread of zander in the UK, coupled with the predation by large numbers of cormorants, Britain’s silver fish populations are now at crisis levels – the killings were both for the table and to make a stand to raise public awareness.
