Lower Severn

You'll catch on the Lower Severn during the day Paul, especially if there's been a bit of a rise in water levels.

My river best came out of a low river (that's still 15ft on this river mind) this summer at 4:30pm on a burning hot afternoon under clear blue skies.

It really depends on what mood the fish are in, sometimes they feed all through the day, sometimes at night, sometimes both and sometimes you think there's not a fish in the river when conditions otherwise seem OK.

Just go believing you will catch and you probably will.

It's probably worth investing in a boat to ferry the fish chasers to the known swims between Diglis and Kempsey at the moment. A right little earner I would think.

Coops,
I have one,and it is always very interesting who you see on the banks,on the lwr.
Still miles of it never fished.
Charters available soon, sailing out of Kempsey boat yard or Upton Marina.
Mackeral trips round the bay,Tee Hee !
Earned a fortune at Collingham and Hazleford this summer,Costa del Sunshine here we come.

Nice one Pons!

When I catch my river record from a quieter stretch I'll just tell everyone it came from the furthest walk swim on Diglis. Bet you still get a circus queue!

Hi pons,

I agree, it is getting a bit busy..er down there. I guess Im partly to blame for it, so sorry if Ive messed up you're fishing.

Made the decision to move on and keep schtum about catches now. (although Ive never disclosed the venues, it doesnt take a genius to figure out where I was).

Incidentally, there is talk of bringing up limiting the membership numbers at the next AGM...

with respect, Darren

ps a few rumours of catfish going around, not sure how true though

Just got this message from John Williams, you all might find it interesting!

Hi Gary.
Upon further investigation, it appears we have made a mistake regarding the ownership of the fishing at Bushley.
Apparently we used to own the fishing either side of the motorway bridge, but this was disposed of some years ago, however no one thought to amend our maps etc. So it looks as though your correspondents are correct and the criticism of BAA is justified. Please pass on my apologies on behalf of the Association.

Hi Darren,
Certainly not messed up my Fishing,as you know there is miles of untapped water, and I am mostly a 100 miles away !
The Circus has moved from the Ketch, just like it will from the lwr,and find a new home elsewhere ,just like it always has done.
The grass will regrow ,the flattened pegs that look like the NCP will get washed away by winter floods, and the car parks will soon be empty again.
Seen it all before.
Dont know about the Cats, but I would be more worried about Big Panthers growling in my ear,on dark nights. WWWRRR !!
Years ago, anglers used to arrive on old Midland Red Buses, and fish matches,on the Severn and Avon, and be gone by 4,nowadays ,4 signals the arrival of the Barbel Anglers, and the car parks fill up just the same, wherever the latest whacker has been reported from on that other well known site.
It was no differant years ago,it just took longer as there was no Internet,Mobiles, and fewer mags.
As a general theme Specialists were more secretive and more lone angler orientated, but that ethos has changed,as many prefer to get together, and exchange ideas, and forge new friendships.
Remember the old Specimen groups, only a few remain, but everywhere I travel, and that is all over, there are still plenty of small groups of anglers who really have their fingers on the pulse, and who daily exchange info on bang up to date catches, and venues, but they wisely keep it off the net.
Good Fishing Darren,
Best regards,
Pons.
