Barbel Landing Net

Hi All

Can anyone reccomend a landing net for my barbel fishing?

Not sure about the large trianular ones because I have never used one before. Ihave long walks on the stretches I fish so it would have to fold away into my quiver easily and be pretty light.

Also the ones I have looked at come with a single peice net pole as standard.Would I be able to atatch the triangular head to my current landing net handle which extends?

If anyone can reccomend apan style net which is big enough I will check these out as well.

Regards

Matt

The rubberised Fox Predator spoons are about £15, screw on to the handle of your choice, and look very Barbel friendly - not that I've yet had either a barbel or a predator to put in mine!

I use the Diawa Specialist net. It's round, 700 mm diameter (about 27 1/2 inches), it folds for easy carrying and it's plenty deep enough for big fish.

I use a 30 plus 42 inch net which sounds huge but the front part is not as wide as some of the same size. I used to use a large spoon and find a fold away triangle much easier to transport. The reason I cahnged was the added depth of the net makes it so much easier to rest fish which is vital !!! You can pick one up for less than 20 quid. Try avoid any nets with big mesh. You can get some nets (usually the cheaper ones) with mesh the size of 50p pieces, These can damge fishes fins very easily !!

Hope this helps !!

Chris.

another little edge to make larger nets easy to handle is a net float that goes on the top of your landing net handle.

Agree about the Korum rubberised pan nets. I have one which I bought for club trips to commmercials (not ones with barbel in, I hasten to add) and it's great for most things apart from winter on canals when a kid's shrimpng net is all you need....

A little more expensive, but a mate rates the nets made by Chris Brown highly.

Got to agree with Pons, the Korum is my first choice, deep enough to rest a Barbel in, rubberised so hooks don't catch as easily in them and a good price to boot!

I have tried a few.....the Daiwa specialist has been thrown to the back of the shed....very plasticky.

I keep going back to my 34" arms.....they roll up and fit into my quiver, and are bloody strong.........spoons etc cause me grief on a long trek.

Paul - agree in some respects but I don't think you can beat a spoon when there are marginal weeds, reeds, etc. it seems to dig down better - if you know whatI mean...
