Hi
Has anyone used the fox royale barbel rods? I'm in the market for a new budget rod and these look pretty nice in the tackle shop.

I already have a wychwood signature in 1.75 which is ok if a little heavy but I notice they have replaced this model with the solace specialist now! Any opinions would be welcome

Cheers

Yeah my understanding was it had taken over from the warrior rods! Have you used yours in anger yet?

Not yet no, looks like a brilliant floater rod too.

I'm still using an old Nash Barbel Elite at the mo.

I have the 1.5lb multi tip.

Have to agree with Phil, the rod is a little stiffer in the butt than my original Grey's prodigy. All the action really is tip to middle - seems a modern trend.

Been using it a couple of times a week mainly with the supplied quiver, balances nicely with a 4000 size super GT-RA.

I am yet to hit into any barbel but have had chub and bream to 5lb and have found that the rod performs admirably.

I'll be matching it with a shimano st 4000fb but I think I'll be going for the 1.75 over the 1.5

Should balance quite well. Ive strapped a 4000 front drag Exage on mine (older model). Might try one of my 5000 baitrunners too.

I'm resurrecting a very old thread I know but rather than start a new 1 I thought I'd ask it on here. Anyone used the 11ft 1.75 for tench and bream on the method or with small bags? I like the thought of the slightly shorter rod and was wondering how they fared as casting rods? Want to keep the rod as soft as possible with the test curve but want something that will tackle any situation with methods and small bags I'm likely to encounter. Thanks in advance.

I was looking at one of these fox Royale Barbel rods for my son but I was put off by their advertising which states that:

All the rods in the range boast a low resin carbon blank, ensuring that the rod is not only exceptionally lightweight but is also stiff – enabling the rod to demonstrate a faster action than its carbon fibre cousins.

As I much prefer my barbel rods to be more through auctioned (as I am often fishing quite close in on smaller rivers) I was put off by the ‘stiff and fast actioned’ description; especially for a Barbel rod.
(NB: I currently use Greys 1.5lb and 1.7lb barbel rods and 1.5lb/2lb multi-tip rods.)

However on the video clip in Phillips post above the action of the Barbel rod was stated to be more of a tip to middle action so I’ll be interested in your views once you have caught a few decent sized barbel on the Fox Royale Barbel rod to see how forgiving it’s action really is.

Sorry Ben I didn’t realise you were resurrecting a very old thread
:sorry:

I have a pair of these in 11ft 1.75 and they are superb. Most of my fishing is done less than three foot from the bank but have had many mid doubles from right under the rod tip and the playing action is a joy.
I also use them for my carp fishing as I fish close in with a centrepin and have had them to low 30's and been able to play fish much harder and have more control than on carp rods.
I sold my £250+ Free Spirits and brought these and have no regrets.... Doesn't matter if they get knocked about for that price.
I've not used them for any kind of range fishing so afraid I can't comment but for playing big fish they're brilliant.
