Kind'a distance we talkin' then?

Close in, margins....off the top, in a punch, as flake but never as a doughy lump.

Bread is the ultimate can't resist having a go at that before someone else snaffles it..in the right hands it could be deadly, you should try sometime, practice makes perfect.

I have tried it, i've used it many many times mainly when targetting chub.
I think there are lots of better baits than bread for targetting barbel though....especailly magots and corn :).

I think the things about crust are that bits fall off, it has the hook in the bait (unlike many baits) it waves about in the current and when the fish suck it in it falls apart in the mouth and is difficult to eject. It's also a bait Barbel know, but don't seem to be afraid of.
I just find it difficult to fish on quick rivers like the Trent without additional weight. I think Steve must be fishing in slacks on the Trent because a single swan shot would not be enough on 99% of the places I fish. Maybe its put on in addition to the standard weight. That for me would just find too many snags unless you're fishing right in the margins under the bank? I just don't know in truth?

Rich.

Depends on conditions river etc, but for winter in can be deadly used with a small feeder....of course I use all the conventional barbel baits, and high up on preferred baits would be meat. But bread is much over looked as a proper Barbel bait, if you need proof of this ask Martin James.:D

Trouble is with specialised barbel baits they come and go, what was catching last week they don't want to know this. I had great success with Sonubaits hookers only in the hemp and halli though, didn't like the garlic, mostly first cast was either a chub or barbel. Then they wised up.

Thing is with Bread, and meat, it always seems to get bites when all else fails, oh! and worm too.

I have today received at least 3 kilos of sayuri pellets free of charge courtesy of mainstream, I would like to thank him for the gift and to say I look forward to trying them out in the near future.

The kindness of fellow anglers never ceases to amaze me, thank you again.
