Not so long ago the same argument was being trotted out (pun intended) when hemp and caster fishermen on the Trent were complaining bitterly about the chub explosion!

Lots of barbel are now being caught because folk are targetting them - you won't see too many trotting stick floats on the Trent nowadays (though there are a few who have ignored the commercial puddles).

All species will either fill a niche or decline, and it's cyclical.

Or are there folks on here who bemoan the loss of the hordes of bleak that used to infest the Trent?

Gudgeon, on the other hand, I do miss - but that's to do with reliving childhood rather than a desire for a specimen.
