help luncheon meat

any tips on how to keep luncheon meet on a hook fishing 5lb line to a linked ledger and size 20 hook when i hit in the sport is brilliant but lossin so many to the meat just coming off

Push the hook through the meat and then turn the meat/hook so it sits on the bend of the hook (turn the meat so the hook doesn't come straight back through the the hole it just made).

You can then push a small piece of grass between the bottom of the meat and the hook to support it a bit.

Alternatively you could hair rig it, depending how big the lumps of meat are (not very on size 20's I presume) you can put some rig tubing over the hair to make it less likey to 'cheesewire' the meat on the cast.

I think you need a much bigger hook; even a pea sized bit of meat needs a 14, many fish meat on much bigger hooks. I wouldn't fish anything less than a 10 and wouldn't hesitate to use a 6.
