Split Shot size

I have a number of floats that are marked up with various shotting weights 3AAA, 2BB etc. However some are marked up with AA size indications. Any packs of split shot that I have seen don't have AA shot in them. They seem to go from AAA to BB. Has AA been superseded or what is the equivalent weight now known as. Thanks in advance for your help.

It's an error, they are AAA. There is no AA, really.

Thanks for that Woody. I suppose it would have been easier to just test the floats with some shot in a pint pot or something! Looking at other threads here and elsewhere it appears that some floats are not very accurately marked anyway and therefore a quick test is probably beneficial anyway.

This might help also, if you have any floats marked up in grammes/forum/smilies/wink_smiley.gif

SSG = 1.6g

SA = 1.2g

AAA = 0.8g

AB = 0.6g

BB = 0.4g

#1 = 0.3g

#4 = 0.2g

#6 = 0.1g

#8 = 0.07g

SSG are also know as “swan” shot. And remember the weights do vary slightly according to different manufacturers but that’s a pretty rough but true guide to weights of the common split shot sizes.
