I've got various floats of differing sizes, e.g. 5 no 4, 3BB

Taking the 3BB as an example, how do you apply the shotseither side of the float? Is it 1BB shot above the float and 2BB shots below?

Thanks in advance

It depends why you should want to put the shot either side of the float?

The weighting on floats is a guide to the weight of shot needed to beadded to your line for the float to sit cocked in the water.

It could be made up of several smaller shot and the total weight of the shot could be more than that specified.

Have you read any of the articles on this site for beginners yet?

Thanks for the prompt reply Fred.

I printed out and read the beginners articles a while ago. But I don't remember it being explained the way you've just explained it.

But then again, maybe i've just been trying to take in too much info at one time.

My advice, for what it's worth is take your time and do it a bit at a time, practice with your shot weighting and the pattern of shot placement.

If you have something like an old plasticcola bottle in the house, cut the top off to the shoulderfill it with water and set your floats up on a lengths of line.

The smaller the shotspread down the line(shirt button style) slows the rate of the line going through the water.

If you want your bait to get to the bottom fast, put you shot nearer the hook.

The shoteither side of the bottom of the float, if your fishing waggler style can be any size, they are usually there to hold it in place.

I prefer to use a float rubber.
