Spooling first baitcaster

Can someone recommend me a decent braid for a beachcaster say 25 to 40lb for heavier lures.

I ploughed on regardless and bought some 30lb power pro in a fetching red colour. I made a complete pigs ear of spooling it however despite putting on a layer of tape and trying to keep the braid tight. It was so bad I've taken it all off and will try again.

I think I'll fit some mono backing on first this time. What is recommended? The reel is a new bait-caster.
