knotless knot

For a while now on these pages & Coarse Fisherman I've seen references to the knotless knot. I've never used or seen one. Could someone direct me (I've tried search) or tell me what the benefits are & how I would tie? Thanks.

It went bloody cold last night just after you phoned-and foggy!-lot of fish about liners etc.....I took four barbs and two chub from the peg we both ended up on-but we both pulled out of several fish.As you say, Activs may have been the difference

Has anybody ever had line damaged by using the knotless knot? In essence it is a spade end knot used on an eyed hook with a long tail left over for use as a hair. I know hooks are better finished nowadays but I always have that slight worry that the end of the turn over of the eye may damage the line when it rests against it.

Kevan - I always use the knotless knot for hair rigged baits when barbel fishing and I have never had one let me down.

Thanks Carp Angler. It's amazing how a few people can make something straight forward sound so complicated & special. Mind you I'm OK with 3/0 hooks, when its a 14 I can see me tying my finger to the shaft!

The pics were done with a 10/0 stainless O'Shaugnessy and 60lb shockleader.
I've tied a few rigs in my time and that was certainly harder than tying them with more supple line or braid.

That's an idea, a mackerel flapper on a hair! I got confused because I've seen a reference to shrink tube over the knot & the use of rig glue. I thought it had something to do with wrapping & glue - hence knotless, consequently I couldn't see it working.

Once you have tied the basic rig you can add tubing, glue or whatever to it.

A lot of people glue the coils once it is tied, for extra security.
Instead of a continuous hair, you can tie a rig ring to the end and whip that down and use the rig for tying baits on.
Some people add shrink tubing to convert the rig to a more pronounced line aligner/bent tube rig/Looney extension/Withy pool etc etc etc.

It's all down to personal preference.
