I want some conversions for my Emblems.

I know you can be a tart and pay ?35 each from Daiwa, but I thought MCF made them (can't find a web site).

Anyone else make them?

Anyone have any good or bad experiences with conversions?

Cheers.

Also, how do you use the Emblems without a free spool.

I have used them by unscrewing the front drag almost all the way, which is a pain in the arse to tighten when you want to strike.

The other way is to open the bail arm, but the line gets blown everywhere.

Help.

My advice is avoid them like the plague. They will ruin your reels as they have for many who have tried them. When striking with a loose clutch simply cup the spool on the strike and tighten down once the fish is hooked. If you wish to fish open bail arms use line clips abve the spool. Before baitrunner days a piece of shirt collar stiffener was whipped to the handle and the line clipped into this.

I always slacken off the spool on my reels.

You can get cheap free run conversions from Fletch's carplines site
reels
If you need that sort of thing.

free spool conversions work o.k. in princible, but dont do what i did ,and forget to knock the lever off in the shock of having a run. and ended up the next half hour un tangling the line.as well as losing the fish.what a bastard eh!

listen to David Will, avoid them at all costs! until someone designs one that actually works as it should. i use Tournaments, and the baitrunner conversions came free. they stayed on for two sessions then i banished them to the bottom of my rucksack!

they sometimes catch the line as it comes off the spool when casting, fall off when trying to lossen for a very powerful fish! the cup the spool and tighten up wen the fish is hooked is definately the way forward!

also the reels look better without them!

if you still want a set, pay for the postage and you can have mine!

Hi Mike
I have to disagree with the other posts. I use the black Diawa conversions with my Emblems and for me they have transformed the reels.
They ally ones I agree are rubbish and can damage the reel. The black ones have Daiwa written on them and can be purchased from J&K Tackle for around ?25. You need to use them in the 45 degree position. Once set right they are very good. You simply pick up the rod when you get a run and by putting you hand over the front of the reel you automatically close the bait runner. Your clutch it thus set for the fight.
Emblems have a lot of travel between a tight and a lose clutch, making it very awkward to tighten on a run. The conversions cure this. Used correctly they are brillant.
They don't work nearly as well with Biomasters (I have sets of both) as the clutch has very little travel between loose and tight, making adjustment very difficult. The clutches are also inferior to the Emblems in any case.

i have not experienced the Emblems solution, but i know the conversions are rubbish on Tournaments (very small adjustments between solid and loose) and i used the black Diawa units!
