I agree with you there Coops having seen and had a go with this rod. And surprisingly for Fox, they bring them in at a competitve price as opposed to there usual 'brand will sell' pricing policy. Incidentally, the code for the above rod is RD3266.

I had a barb on mine of about 6lb on Sunday fishing tight to a snag on the Teme. Hauled it away with no problem before it had a chance of getting its head in the sunken branches, but then the rod had loads of 'feel' when playing the fish in open water. Lots of power, but not a hogstick.

I've got the 1.5tc version, haven't caught a barbel on it yet, but loads of tench upto 7lb and a couple of double figure carp.
Definitely the nicest feeling rod I've ever used.

Couln't agree more on this one I have the 1lb test and 13/4 lb test models. Lovely cork handles with down locking screw Fuji fittings.

The handle is not too long either.

The one thing I cannot stand are rods with rubber handles!! Many carp and specialist rods have truly horrible black rubber abbreviated handles that uplock and which are too long. I often wonder if rod designers have gone mad!

Still I suppose it makes them cheaper to manufacture and some anglers THINK they are technically correct. No they not!!

One improvement that could be made with the 1 lb test Fox is a screw thread in the end ring to accept a swing tip or Betalite fitting together with a keeper ring on the butt.

But you can't moan about the price.

My vote goes to the Harrison Interceptor. Found a shoal of mental barbel last night and the Interceptor dealt with the very effectively ! OK it retails at ?30 more than the Fox and doesn't have a quiver tip section but it is probably the best barbel tool I have come across.

Anyone else use the Masterline Heritage 1 3/4lb tc rod. Its marketed as a carp rod, and Mr.Wilson even chucks a method feeder out on his!!!!
I personally use a pair, which balance nicely with a pair of shimano 4010gtm's, for all my tench and bream work. They could do with being 12ft, instead of 11'6", but otherwise they are fine. Full cork handle and only ?75, or less if you look around.
Mind you, now I've seen the new Fox Barbel Kevlar rod, I'm beginning to wonder......

I'm considering the new Fox Barbel rods as well. As well as using them for barbel, I want them to double up with the rod top section for fishing a not-too-heavy method feeder for bream & tench. I think I would prefer the 1.5lbTC Barbel Special, the Fox catalogue describing this as a much more "through" action rod, but am not sure whether the 1.75lbTC Barbel Plus would be more suited to using for both. Anyone got any recommendations?

Steve - I think you need to try them and feel the difference yourself to decide whether you need the extra power of the 'Plus' or the softer action of the 'Special'. Personally I think I would go for the 1.75tc but maybe that's because I have one already.

By the way, did you buy that scarf to match your Emblems?

Lets not forget that a 1.75tc rod is not necessarily stronger than a 1.5tc. It could just mean that the tip section is not as soft. The butt section of a Daiwa barbel specialist has the power of a small carp rod and this is what makes it such an effective method feeder rod as well.

I think people are kidding themselves if they think stepping up slightly from a 1.5tc barbel rod will stop a big fish hitting snags if you fish too close to them. You would need to hold the rod at all times, use a 3lbtc rod and 30lb braid to do that !

I'll go with Andy's vote and would also reco the Harrison Interceptor. I've got a dozen or so Harrison rods for various species and there all superb. I'd also go with what Ron mentioned and have the cork handles, looks better, feels better.
