Under a previous thread on worms, where I recounted my experience of
meeting a Salmon angler who was "worm charming". I would like to follow on
with another story about these strange fellows, anyone who spends far more
time than any other angler blanking whitest fishing for fish which don't feed in our rivers, must be somewhat questionably regarding there sanity.
The other day as I settled in for a short night session on the river a couple of Salmon anglers stopped for a bit of a chat and as always I asked if any of them had picked up any bream whilst they'd been worming, a regular occurrence apparently. However, the conversations turn to Perch, very big Perch. At this point one of the guys turned to the other and said, "do you remember old Bill catching that 7lb Perch a couple of years ago". "Yup" said the other guy" he took it home and ate it for his tea" They then told me where they had caught Perch well over 3lb and had seen others estimated over 5lb. I've yet to see for myself one of these guys catching a very large Perch
but they've told me of a local Pub where there's a stuffed 7lb Perch and
after the "worm charming" experience I'm not going to write off these
stories of extremely large Perch. I'm having a bit of a run at the moment
on big river Bream, 11lb, 10lb-4oz and 10lb-3oz and quite a bit of the
background information has come form talking to these local Salmon anglers,
15lb plus has been mentioned, now that might be wishful thinking!!!!!!!!
