Yes.... YES and Yes the rate of retrieve and angle of rod helps. There are also light weight spoons for shallow water. Still an effective lure

Wicked. About the only lure I can catch fish on. Nick Green sells 28gm copper blanks at ?2.50 for two. You can fish 'em slow, or literally right across the surface deep on retrieve speed, rod angle etc.

Pete Waller's written some good stuff on trad lures, have a rummage in the articles on www.predator-fishing.co.uk

Flick the rod tip up or retrieve with it raised off the surface and the spoon rises up in the water.

Nicky,
I do a lot of trolling aswell as deadbaiting for pike,my no.1 bait is a copper and silver spoon,2-4 inches long, but if u can get a big 18 inch "HEAVY" copper and silver spoon grab it as it will bring pike up from the depths even in winter,i spent the last 3 day's trolling for pike in peaty water, kept getting jacks on various luminous small s deep divers, but once the spoon's went on the size of fish went up dramatically.....Try them and see what u think.
