I'm fishing for pike at Chew Valley this October. I'd be very interested to hear which methods you think will work best at this venue. (I will be fishing from a boat).

Well, that has norrowed it down a bit. I would tend to drift the boat over "structure" using a drogue to slow it down. I would try jerkbaits (flippers esp in rainbow or brown trout colours, as well as the usual) and spinnerbaits and just cast away to my hearts content.
I think too many people wade in with HUGE lures and miss out on a lot of sport. Do try big lures, but also, be a bit more conservative in your lure size.
Deadbaits i would tend to float troll.
Once you get a take, mark the spot with a buoy or something (6 ounce sea weight on line with a large float attached and chucked over the side) That way, once landed, you can concentrate on that spot for a while.
Keep on the move till u find them, and look towards any cages, towers, jetties , drop offs, bays etc.

Have they sorted the question of whether it is a cull or not. At the beginning of this year it was left to the anglers discretion.I know many were unhappy with this.Many thought being next to a boat when a fish is 'culled ' would not do the sport or their reputations any good. It was thought another Blithfield might occur.

The PAC are not running the event. It is not a cull , but rather a financial decision and an opportunity for the fishery management to diversify from trout / fly only . They have seen the light as it were (or should that be golden egg ?). It would not be in their interest to kill off the pike when they can rake in a lot of money for little or no outlay .
However , anglers may , if they wish , retain one fish for the table . I see no real problem here , as most anglers there will be proper pike anglers who will have the welfare of the fish at heart. A few taken for the table will be no big deal.
Tickets are I believe , sold out , certainly for the boats. I'm sure some gig fish will be landed.

Keith...sounds good!
I have a local water where the owners insist all pike are killed...even though they are making ?2000 a year from season tickets. They cant understand the logic of "kill the pike, tickets won't be sold in a few years time....because there are few fish"!!...Mental

All too typical in Scotland .The local landowners and clubs on the Eann used to whine on and on about Grayling , killing any they caught. They were regarded as utter vermin.
Now however , when there have been so few salmon and sea trout about and day ticket sales have dropped sharply , these same people are bloody glad of the revenue that Grayling day tickets bring them (and in some cases its a lot of money)in Winter. In addition , its free money ,as they don't have to stock !
Even so , they don't like to see every grayling going back...why do they the grayling fishing stays good year in year out??? At least some respect is shown now to the grayling angler, even if it's only due to the money we bring.

If tghis is the first time it has been fished almost properly for Pike, try some nice big shiny spoons! Be prepared for takes on the drop and don't be to hasty when lifting off to recast, as I have taken quite a few Rutland fish on the "Dibble".

Oh! I forgot, drift as much as possible and try to "mark" areas that produce [takes or fish]. If the water is warm,and you are having trouble reviving any fish, when you release the fish plunge your arm in as far as possible hopefully to find cooler water!
The other thing about the Pikes welfare is don't mess about going ashore for your Trophy shot, take your piccy in the boat quickly. Finally if the press are there, don't get carried away by their demands, tell them to clear off and you will send the photos later! Then publish them on Anglers Net
