Just recieved an Email from David Stocker of CA. after vote to end fox hunting in Scotland. I quote from Daily Telegraph:

"After the vote, Peter Hastie of the Scottish Campaign against Hunting with dogs raisewd the spectre of the ban being extended to all field sports, including Shooting & Angling. "We as a nation will not tolerate bloodsports any more. Scotland has spoken".

The reporter was Tom Peterkin the
DTs Scottish Political Correspondant.

Sounds ominous doesn't it?

Ron, I for one support the abolition of Angling in Scotland! The latest Green Paper on scotland quite clearly does not recognise coarse angling as "angling"...and therefore my Pike and Carp wont be affected!.

On a serious note, Peter Hastie is a typical ranting twat who only got support because he was up against an even bigger twat from the Fox hunters. He is very "nationalistic" and kept saying "we as a nation" every second bloody sentance.

Angling is in the veins of many Scots...and I honestly dont think he will get much support up here. Angling brings in ?5 million pounds to royal deeside every year, along with Charles and the Queen Mum being fishers and many VERY influential people.

The economy on Deeside, Tayside, Speyside etc, the Orknys, shetlands etc. would be destroyed and many thousands of jobs, including hoteliers etc would be lost.

It is worrying, but I think it will be defeated.

Rod, there is too much proof that angling is a huge asset to Scottish economy. It would be a huge shot in the foot to ban it.

Rob,
I hope your right, however I'm sure the shooting enthusiasts thought the same before that animal Thomas Hamilton snapped. Their sport was wiped out in days. I saw the interview with Peter Hastie and he seemed to think this was a victory for Scotland, I didn't realise the war was over, the economy is already suffering due to electronics plants, ship yard contracts being given away and telecomunications companies screwing the people over after recieving millions in grants from the government and then closing factories.

Have a look at the current Labour Cabinet. The Scots are running both countries now.
A silent coup.

I like Rob don't believe for one moment that angling will be banned in Scotland . The money and jobs involved - pro rata to population - is higher than in England , probably much higher . In addition , toffs and proles alike go fishing , unlike foxhunting with dogs.
Much more worrying is the green paper which may well propose the banning of livebaiting in Scotland should it go through parliament. This idea has the backing of important organisations , notably Scottish Natural Heritage. This would not affect Game angling to any great extent so we couldn't necissarily expect them to stand up and be counted , and remember , they are vastly in the majority in Scotland. See the PAC website for more info. and a petition to print out and sign to try to sway Edinburgh's opinion.(pacgb.com)
What becomes law in Scotland could well eventually become law south of the border one day too. That I feel , would be the thin end of the wedge. Sign up and stand up!

The livebaiting issue is indeed worrying. ave a read of the Green Paper (www.esoxecosse.com) and see what u all think. Coarse fish have basically been labelled vermin and therfore livebaiting, which threatens loch ecosystems..and therefore the gane fish is under SERIOUS attack.

It has been said before but worth repeating, fish are not the only live bait used in angling worms, grubs, maggots, pinkies, squats, and slugs.
