  1. No luck lake

    The closest fishable water to home, about a 15 minute walk, is a rather neglected park pond. It's known locally as The Ducky. I have only ever witnessed one fish being landed from it, a pike of about 8lbs that fell to a spinner. The place screams PERCH to me every time I'm on the bank.

    My return to angling came off the back of watching dozens of YouTube videos about drop shotting, people hauling out perch after perch on bitterly cold winter ...

  2. Old school fishing

    Little Pond In The Woods

    I discovered the small pond on a bike ride with my son. We noticed a couple of people fishing, I found that no special permit was required to fish, and heard the usual rumours of “a couple of big carp.” The pond reminded me of the little places I would fish as a youngster, I couldn’t wait to see what was in it.

  4. True Fishing Story: BIGGEST CRAPPIE I EVER (nearly) CAUGHT.

    My old fishing buddy, Pat, past away last year but if he was here, he would, grudgingly, back me up on this because real fishermen never lie.

    Now in that part of Alabama (I'm currently living in Costa Rica) crappie fishing is taken seriously, and they are especially hard to find during the dog days of summer.     Apparently they are. The pole man I was talking to had 17 out just before Christmas.
