Which Bite Alarm Indicator do you prefer and what are it's advantages to other styles.

I always used Hangers, i was introduced to them and used them Predominantly, the ones i used were Fox and later on The Nash ones.

Do they all just serve the same purpose and is it just a matter of personal taste or are there certain advantages to some over others ?

Just how bored are you Steph? what's with all the threads you know the answer too? :D

I tend to use whichever suits the style of fishing and weather conditions.

I use

for perch or when I want as little resistance as possible. I use for medium range and mild conditions lastly for longer range and windy weather.

I like to fish with slack lines when i can so i used to use light bobbins with light cords. On one particularly hard take however, the bobbin slapped into the rod and then wrapped itself half a dozen times around the rod and line. Luckily i still managed to land the 13lb carp, but it was a near thing! Were i not sitting on my rod's it would have been gone. As it turned out, i just lost 70 or so yards of freshly spooled line. Since then i always use swingers. One less thing to worry about! Now, if i could just sort out the rest.... :)

Fox micro swingers for me. Having used just about every other kind, from dough-bobbins, foil cylinders, washing-up bottle tops (which I still use for roach, bream and tench) monkey-climbers (still second favourite for carp) and bobbins, I've concluded that swingers can do it all, with none of the drawbacks.

Consider: they're resistant to being blown about; they can be set to vitually weightless so you can fish really slack lines, or very heavy by sliding the weight forward - so much so you get rod tip deflection against a tight line - and anywhere in between; they take isotopes for night fishing; they are adjustable for different line thicknesses, and they won't flip up and tangle round the alarm or rod on a fast run.

Bobbins seem to be the fashion at the moment - probably due to the Korda dvds, Thinking Tackle shows on Sky and the fact that one or two high-profile carpers use them. Muddy Waters bobbins are all the rage 'darn sarf' with the in-crowd; I can't see the point myself as most of these chaps fish really slack lines to avoid spooking already pressured carp, and the only way they can do it is by laying the bobbins on the ground. The 2 gram 'old skool' (how pathetic) version is supposed to be light enough not to drop and tension a slack line, but then it's invariably attached to six (or even nine) inches of chunky sink plug chain weighing ten times as much!

PS half a crown was equal to twelve and a half new pence.

you forgot springers. they're not only a breed of spaniel.

for me mainly hangers, unless it's really windy then they become a pain in the crevice.
so i would then switch to a swinger.

now who uses as hanger on the back rest as a drop off.

Thanks Windy - I think I had made a few hundred posts, but when the site changed ownership I lost them.
