In a nut shell......because it is rolled and has weight, it allows you to cast comfortably around the 50 yard mark.

Because of the way in which the rig is wrapped (i.e. caged) it remains intact for quite a substantial amount of time. It also allows you to drag the rig which sits on the surface away from any looming ducks.

if no carp are visible, the smaller fish start to very slowly pick the bread apart, the carp move in and compete, then compete some more then wallop - hold on.

As stated, you've got to try it to view an opinion. I've never had a bad hooking arrangement on it. Happy to take questions on it or be the victim of a merciless debate!!!

If I remember rightly, it was all down to the way its tied up. I don't think I will be using it, until someone who knows how to use the rig correctly, shows me the ropes.
