safest way to use a shockleader

hi whats the safest way to use a shock leader? was thinking a heli rig.

I'am using a 2oz lead and a small pva bag or do I really need one?

Depends how far you are casting, mainline strength, rod action etc

But generally if fishing under 70 yards I wouldn't feel the need with balanced tackle.

Simple answer is no, in the wrong hands they are dangerous and some waters have banned them because of that, you don't say what rod/reel/ line strength you will be using but it would appear from the lead you intend to use that distance is not the object.

I'm assuming you are casting 140 yards plus to warrant the shock leader?
